When Madelyn told me she wanted water in her senior photos, I knew exactly where we needed to go.
Arizona is home to many lakes, and Lake Saguaro is one of the most beautiful. It's rugged and soft beauty allow for gorgeous senior photos near Scottsdale Mesa seniors because its accessible in 30-45 minutes. Read on below for some key planning tips if you want to plan for your senior photos at Lake Saguaro. :-)

Madelyn brought three outfits for her 1.5 hour experience and crushed them all! She looked stunning and adorable and in all three. First up was her black Arizona State tube top paired with relaxed jeans, equal parts hometown pride and effortless cool.
We tucked her into the desert grasses along the rocky hillside, and the way the late-day light wrapped around her made these some of the most striking frames of the whole session. However, getting to this spot can be a muddy adventure!

One Planning Tip for Lake Saguaro: Parts of the shoreline can get genuinely muddy depending on the season, so I always recommend a sturdy pair for walking and your cute shoes for the actual photos. It also takes about a ten-minute hike to reach the really good stuff, so comfortable footwear for the trek is your friend.
Also, when the weather is nice, be prepared for crowds. The lake can get very busy, which is one more reason that timing and location knowledge matter so much. And don't forget you'll need a parking permit (a Tonto Pass) to park in the area, so grab one when you come in to park.

After her ASU spiritwear (Go Devils!), she changed into a sweet white dress, all sunshine and that classic senior-year glow, with the lake stretching out behind her like a postcard. (There were probably over a hundred people near us, so if this will intimidate certain people, you may want to plan this session for times of year when the lake is less busy, aka the colder months).

We saved her favorite look for last, this gorgeous a powder-blue satin halter dress that caught the golden hour light like it was made for it. This section of the lake is far quieter but its a trek and still a busy trail.

Here's a little behind-the-scenes truth that I think is worth sharing, because it's the kind of thing that makes or breaks a session like this:
We did all three looks in about an hour and a half before sunset, and that timing was no accident. Knowing this location means knowing where to be and when: which spots catch the warm light first, which ones save the best glow for last, and how to move through three full outfit changes without ever feeling rushed or chasing the sun.
This is part of the value of hiring an experienced photographer who knows the areas she shoots, knows light and how to shape it, and loves working with people of all ages to find that inner essence that hopefully captures the real stuff... the good stuff :-)
Madelyn, congratulations on this huge milestone. Watching you light up in front of that water, with the desert glowing all around you, was such a joy. ASU is lucky to have you!
