Arizona Newborn & Maternity Photos

Newborn photography & maternity portraits with a natural, bright & airy lifestyle feel by Scottsdale photographer Jennifer Bowen.

Jennifer has been a full time photographer in Phoenix for more than a decade and loves capturing this special time in your life!  Maternity photos to document your growing belly and what this transformative time looks and feels like -- and lifestyle newborn photos to capture not just their tiny feet, hands and sweet face, but also the love you feel for this little human who just doubled the size of your heart (for the first, second, fourth or 10th time)!

Jennifer typically photographs newborns in their own home, using your furnishing and baby room as the backdrop. She will bring a few items to the session (such as baskets and blankets, etc) but prefers to keep the session very lifestyle in nature and use mostly what you have.  Lots of natural light definitely helps!

We recommend scheduling newborn pictures in the first 2-3 weeks of life when they sleep more deeply and still have their tiny, sweet newborn faces, hands and feet. :-)

Newborn sessions typically last 1.5 - 2 hours to allow for feedings & diaper changes. Sessions are scheduled between 9 AM - 3 PM during the week, and by special appointment on weekends.

If your baby is already a month or two old, and you only want to invest in one big professional portrait shoot for the year, Jennifer recommends waiting until they are around 6-8 months old, as that is the next key milestone stage that photographs adorably -- when they are sitting up unsupported, and are very smiley & interactive. It's such a cute and fun stage!

Clothing Ideas for Newborn Photos

NEWBORN CLOTHES & SWADDLES

When planning for your portrait session, lightweight swaddle blankets, diaper covers, headbands, cute onsies or bare skin tends to photograph the best. We suggest saving pretty outfits for when they are older and can sit or stand on their own where you will really notice the outfit. Etsy has lots of cute headbands and handmade items that do photograph well, so its a great place to purchase items you can keep.

WHAT TO WEAR FOR PARENTS & SIBLINGS

For the bright and airy look, we recommend parents wear light colors like white, ivory, light gray, champagne, soft blush or shades of lighter blue.  Other colors like navy, dark grays, greens or any color that flatters your skin tone can also work great. Since you will most likely get some spit up on you, or possibly pee-pee, I might suggest saving the fancy clothing for a later shoot.  Keep your recovering body comfortable in maxi dresses or other articles of clothing that help you feel as comfortable as possible. (tunics and leggins, easy dresses, wrap sweaters, etc)

In your home, I almost always use the baby nursery, the master bedroom if it gets a lot of light, and use the bed for a place to lay your baby.  We can also use tufted ottomans, covered patios, living room furniture and more. And I can bring some baskets and a posing bean bag if desired.
